Visakhapatnam: Choose an ideology that upholds dharma, respects Constitutional values, and shows gratitude to the nation that has given you birth and identity, deputy chief minister
Pawan Kalyan told students at the valedictory function of the three-day cultural fest organised by Andhra University as part of its centenary celebrations in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday.
Addressing the students, he asked them to reflect which ideology is truly worth embracing. "You may encounter various ideologies, but you must question, test, and evaluate them. Ask yourselves whether they are practical and relevant to contemporary society or merely theoretical constructs. Do not follow blindly. Instead, develop a vision and examine every belief critically. Even if you are not politically active, you must always have a voice. If you disagree with someone or their actions, express it through the democratic process and ensure accountability. Universities are not just centres of learning, they nurture thoughtful ideologues," Pawan, who was the chief guest at the event, said.
He presented prizes to winners of various competitions and cultural programmes. Andhra University vice-chancellor Prof GP Rajasekhar outlined the activities conducted over the past 11 months as part of the institution's centenary celebrations.
"As this university completes 100 years, I consider it a privilege to be part of its centenary celebrations. Institutions that consistently nurture generations and contribute to society are rare, and Andhra University stands among them as a symbol of heritage and intellectual legacy of India. Your aspirations should extend beyond personal success to serving society and strengthening the nation. India is emerging as a strong global force, moving towards complete self-reliance and progress. When you read about sacrifices like those of Bhagat Singh, understand their purpose and values. Hold on to a strong ideology, act with determination, and move forward with purpose," the deputy chief minister added.
"While social norms may not be easily removed, we must go beyond barriers of caste and community and focus on humanity, on the wellbeing of the society, and national progress. It takes just one determined mind to create meaningful change. Yad bhavam, tad bhavati (your thoughts shape your reality). Regardless of your background or ideology, your duty is to think deeply and contribute meaningfully to the nation," Pawan said.
